CONSTANCE CUMMINGS. Lovely 8×10 glossy black and white chest-up portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in later years in blue/black marker, “To John/Constance/Cummings.” Very fine condition. Constance Cummings made her film debut in 1931, working at a frenetic pace to star in twenty films over a brief four-year period. At the end of 1934, dissatisfied with the quality of her Hollywood output, she decamped for England, where she would spend most of the rest of her lengthy life, appearing in numerous plays and films, including the effervescent 1945 screen version of Noel Coward’s Blithe Spirit. In 1979, at the age of 70, she made a triumphant return to Broadway in Arthur Kopit’s Wings, for which she received a Tony Award.
