Vintage 1920s 7.4 x 9.4 matte finish black and white chest-up portrait by James Hargis Connelly, boldlly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “To Marjorie -/Sincerely/Conrad Nagel.”  Fine condition, with neatly trimmed borders.  With his matinee idol looks, Conrad Nagel found steady employment at MGM throughout the silent era, playing upstanding, principled leads in dozens of films. Although his fine speaking voice allowed him to make a smooth transition to sound, his histrionics did not exactly set the screen on fire, and by the mid-thirties he was being cast in character roles but continued to perform on the screen, stage and television with impressive regularity until 1968.
