CHILI BOUCHIER. Vintage 7.75 x 9 double-weight glossy black and white full-length studio portrait of the actress promoted as Britain’s answer to Clara Bow, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “With all good wishes/Sincerely/Chili Bouchier/1931.” Very slightly trimmed borders; otherwise very fine condition. Under personal contract to producer Herbert Wilcox, the perky actress enjoyed a busy screen career until Wilcox discovered Anna Neagle, whom he ultimately married, and Bouchier was loaned out to Warner Bros., where she was relegated to so-called “quota quickies” at Warner’s Middlesex studios, putting a quick end to her days as a major star. She spent much of the war years entertaining the troops, then returned to the stage for the next two decades.
