Vintage 1940s 8×10 matte finish black and white chest-up studio portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, “For Mary Green/Thanks, & Best wishes/Bruce Bennett.”  Fine condition, with very mild creasing in the horizontal borders, the creasing at the bottom very slightly intruding into the bottom of the image, completely invisible when the photograph is viewed head on.  The Olympic medal winner turned actor appeared as Tarzan in a low-budget serial in the 1930s, acting under his birth name, Hermann Brix, and subsequently played he-man roles in other serials.  After disappearing from the screen and using the time to take some professional acting lessons, he re-emerged as a leading man at Warner Bros., playing important roles in such films as Sahara (1943), Mildred Pierce (1945), Treasure of the Sierra Madre (1948), etc.
