Borderless 7.5 x 9.5 glossy black and white full-length publicity portrait from The Ugly Duckling (1959), boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, “To Tony, With all good wishes from/Bernard Bresslaw.”  Fine condition, with soft surface impressions in the background along the right edge where a studio snnipe, since removed, was originally affixed to the reverse side.  A veteran of fourteen Carry On films, Bernard Bresslaw was typecast for many years as a clumsy dimwit.  Following the quick failure of half a dozen television series in which he attempted to recycle this character, Bresslaw decided to strike out in a new direction, and began playing more serious roles, many of them Shakespearean, onstage, achieving great critical success, while continuing to make occasional film and television appearances.
