Sepia tone 6.8 x 10 head and shoulders book-weight portrait, with printed biography below, removed from the 1930 edition of “Stars of the Photoplay, ” boldly signed and inscribed in green fountain pen, “To John -/With best wishes/Ben Lyon.” Fine condition, with a slightly trimmed right border. A pencil notation along the extreme top left edge indicates that this page was signed in person in May 1965. Ben Lyon was a modestly popular silent screen leading man who appeared opposite such screen divas as Gloria Swanson, Claudette Colbert, Barbara LamMarr and Pola Negri. Making a smooth transition to sound, he had his greatest screen success as the hero of Howard Hughes’s Hell’s Angels (1930).
