Youthful black and white 7.5 x 10.7 book-weight chest-up portrait, with printed biography below, removed from the 1924 edition of “Stars of the Photoplay, ” boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, “For John Virzi/May 10, 1961/Ben Alexander” Fine condition, with two very mild corner bends and faint surface impressions in the borders. Silent screen child actor Ben Alexander went on to play supporting roles in sound films through 1941, and then became a radio announcer. He had essentially retired from acting when he was picked by Jack Webb to play the role for which he is best remembered, Sgt. Frank Smith on the long-running “Dragnet” series.
