ANTON WALBROOK. Vintage 1940s 3.5 x 5.3 glossy black and white head and shoulders portrait by Jon Vickers, signed to the bottom border in blue fountain pen. Fine condition, with mounting remnants on the reverse side. With a distinguished career onstage and in film in Austria and Germany, the Austrian-born Anton Walbrook fled to England ahead of the Nazi takeover of his native country and began an equally impressive career on the British screen. He is best remembered as the domineering impresario in The Red Shoes (1948), and was effectively chilling in the little-seen original version of Gaslight (1940).
