Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 double-weight semi-glossy three-quarter length black and white portrait, signed in red fountain pen, “Sincerely/Anny Ahlers.”  Fine condition, with faint silvering to the darker areas of the image, visible only when the photograph is angled into the light.  Anny Ahlers was a German singer and actress who gained popularity in a handful of films made in the waning years of the silent era.  After a successful sound film debut, she traveled to London, making a well-received stage debut in an operetta.  In March 1933, during the run of the operetta, she committed suicide by jumping out a window, reportedly under the influence of prescription drugs.She was 25 years old at the time of her death.
