During her whirlwind five years with MGM (1928-32), Anita Page became one of the studio’s most popular female stars, at one point receiving more weekly fan mail than any actress except Greta Garbo. Page later claimed that her contract at MGM was terminated because she refused the sexual advances of Louis B. Mayer and Irving Thalberg.
