AILEEN PRINGLE

Black and white 7.75 x 10.5 chest-up portrait removed from the 1924 edition of “Stars of the Photoplay,” boldly signed and inscribed in green fountain pen, “To John – with a backward/glance to Three Wishes./Aileen Pringle – Xmas ’61.”  A slightly ragged edge where the page was removed from the book; otherwise very fine condition.  John Verzi collection.  The sophisticated star of the silent screen played leading roles throughout the 1920s but was often disliked by her fellow actors due to her caustic wit and attitude of haughty superiority. After a few leading roles in early talkies, she began to be cast in smaller supporting roles and occasional unbilled appearances, finally retiring from films in 1944 and spending most of the next 45 years in wealthy retirement.
