WILLIAM DIETERLE. Vintage 1920s 3.5 x 5.5 matte finish sepia tone half-length costume portrait, boldly signed in black fountain pen. Mint condition. The German silent screen actor turned to directing in 1923 and emigrated to America in 1930, quickly becoming an important figure at Warner Bros. He is perhaps best remembered for the impressive series of "biopics" he directed for the studio, which included The Story of Louis Pasteur (1935), The Life of Emile Zola (1937), Juarez (1939), and Dr. Ehrlich's Magic Bullet (1940).
