STEPIN FETCHIT. Scarce vintage 8x10 glossy sepia tone full-length costume portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To/June/From/Stepin Fetchit/Best/wishes." Very good condition, with a slightly trimmed left border; a small stain in the background near the top right; and a fair number of small to moderate handling bends in the background and in the signature area, noticeably detracting from overall appearance. Controversial black character actor Stepin Fetchit became wealthy for his portrayals of shuffling, dim-witted menials during the 1930s and '40s, but was later reviled for perpetuating the worst types of racial stereotypes through his performances.
