SCOTTY BECKETT. Vintage 7.75 x 9.75 black and white half-length portrait, boldly inscribed in blue fountain pen, "Best Wishes to/Charles K. Stumpf./Sincerely/Scotty Beckett." Fine condition, with slightly trimmed borders. Some slight background staining has been removed with professional air brushing and the entire photo exhibits a semi-flat finish, which does not substantially detract from overall appearance. Making his film debut in 1933 at age four, Scotty Beckett became one of the most popular and appealing child stars of the 1930s and '40s, including a stint in the "Little Rascals" series. By the end of the 1940s, though, parts began to dry up, and Beckett began a lengthy series of confrontations with the law, which included arrests for armed robbery, drunk driving and drug possession. In 1968, at age age of 39 and having been away from acting for a decade, Beckett committed suicide with an overdose of barbiturates. Signed photographs from any period of his career are extremely scarce.
