ROBERT EMMETT O'CONNOR. Vintage 7.75 x 9.75 glossy silver tone chest-up portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, "To/Florence/ Best wishes/Sincerely/Robert Emmett O'Connor." Fine condition, with slightly trimmed borders; mounting remnants to the verso; and slight scuffing to the glossy finish. Character actor Robert Emmett O'Connor alternated between Broadway and Hollywood during the 1920s, but devoted himself exclusively to film from 1930 until his retirement in the early 1950s. In all, he appeared in over 200 films, most frequently cast as a dumb cop or detective and providing a memorable comic foil for Laurel and Hardy and the Marx Brothers. This is the only signed photograph of him I have ever encountered.
