NOAH BEERY. Unusual vintage 8x10 double-weight satin finish sepia tone portrait of Beery with Noah Beery, Jr., circa 1930, signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "For Jamey/Tansery (?)/Noah Beery &/Noah Jr.," the writing all in Beery, Sr.'s hand. Fine condition, with mounting remnants to the verso; a diagonal bend in the bottom left corner, slightly intruding into the background but not touching any of the writing; mild soiling in the left border; and patches of faint silvering, completely invisible when the image is viewed head on. The older brother of Wallace Beery appeared in nearly 200 films over a three-decade Hollywood career, establishing himself as the most scurrilous villain of the silent screen. His behavior did not much improve with the advent of sound. Noah Beery, Jr. made a few brief screen appearances in the 1920s and got his first billing in 1932. He acted occasionally with his father in films and onstage and ultimately appeared on well over 100 films during a career that spanned six decades.
