LYA de PUTTI. Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 matte finish sepia tone chest-up portrait, circa 1926, boldly signed in blue fountain pen. Very fine condition. The Hungarian-born actress gained international attention as the star of the German Expressionist masterpiece, Variety, in 1925. She quickly became a globe-trotting celebrity, continuing to make films in Germany while also working in France (the lavish and impressive Manon Lescaut in 1926) and Hollywood (D.W. Griffith's unfortunate The Sorrows of Satan that same year). Her final screen appearance was in England, where she appeared opposite Lars Hanson (both dubbed), in the 1929 version of The Informer. She died of pneumonia in 1931 at age 32.
