LOUISE FAZENDA. Vintage 9 x 11.75 linen finish sepia tone chest-up portrait, circa 1920, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, "To/Harry/Very best wishes/from/Louise Fazenda." Fine condition, with trimmed edges and noticeable pinholes in all four corners. The goofy, high-spirited comic actress appeared in about 150 comedy shorts, a majority of them under the direction of Mack Sennett, and played supporting roles in scores of full-length films during the silent era. She made a smooth transition to sound, and continued working throughout the 1930s, albeit at a less frantic pace. In this image she strikes a high-toned pose far different from her signature role as a naive country bumpkin, a fond caricature that provided the template for such later entertainers as Judy Canova and Minnie Pearl.
