Joe Cook
JOE COOK. Scarce vintage 8x10 matte finish sepia tone portrait, circa 1930, boldly signed in black fountain pen, "With best wishes/from/Joe Cook." Fine condition, with an area of light emulsification to the right side of his jacket and a few very faint handling bends in the background. Virtually forgotten today, Joe Cook was a highly popular stage comic of the 1920s. His hit Broadway comedy of 1928, Rain or Shine, was also the vehicle for his feature length film debut in 1930 under the direction of Frank Capra. That rather limp entertainment proved to be the high point of his film career, which plodded along for another half dozen low-budget efforts released during the decade.
