JAMES FLAVIN. Vintage 1930s 8x10 satin finish silver tone profile portrait, by Melbourne Spurr, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "Jimmy -/Sincerely/Jimmy Flavin." Near very fine condition, with slight surface scuffs and a few tiny bends. Between 1931 and his death in 1976, character actor James Flavin was a non-stop acting machine, appearing in about 400 films as well as an additional 80 television series. He generally portrayed policemen, detectives, military officers or prison guards, with many of his appearances unbilled. The writing, penned across the dark fabric of his jacket, is considerably stronger on the actual photograph than it appears in the accommpanying scan. Scarce.
