JACK CARSON. Vintage 7.5 x 9.75 glossy black and white bust portrait, boldly inscribed in black ink, "To Charles Stumpf -/with my best wishes/Jack Carson." Fine condition, with the left border entirely trimmed; the remaining three borders partially trimmed; and a light horizontal bend working its way from the right edge into the background, intersecting one letter of his surname. Accompanied by the original February 1956 letter of transmittal, also signed by Carson. Affable or overbearing, depending on one's taste, Jack Carson starred in dozens of mostly limp comedies and musicals at Warner Bros. during the 1940s. Although best known as a comedian, his most impressive performances were in more dramatic roles that he was offered less frequently, including such films as Mildred Pierce (1945), A Star is Born (1954) and Cat on a Hot Tin Roof (1958).
