Herbert Mundin
HERBERT MUNDIN. Vintage 8x10 matte finish sepia tone half-length portrait, by Russell Ball, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To/Edward Herner/With Sincere Regards/Herbert Mundin." Also signed by the photographer in the bottom right corner. Fine condition, with small areas of light surface warping along the left edge and a faint diagonal bend in the background, starting at the top center and running to his hair. The aforementioned flaws do not substantially detract from the overall appearance of the image. The roly-poly, heavy-jowled British character actor was a Hollywood fixture throughout the 1930s, with memorable roles in such enduring classics as David Copperfield and Mutiny on the Bounty (both 1935), and The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938). Mundin died in a car accident at the age of 41, and signed photographs in 8x10 format are extremely uncommon.
