HELEN MORGAN. Vintage 7.5 x 9.5 matte finish sepia tone half-length portrait of the troubled singer and actress, circa 1930, boldly inscribed in black fountain pen, "To Mrs. Johnson/Sincerely/Helen Morgan." Fine condition, with the image possibly very slightly trimmed. A popular torch singer of the 1920s, whose tear-laced voice could melt the hardest heart, Helen Morgan originated the role of Julie in the Broadway production of Show Boat, a role she reprised in the peerless 1936 film version. She died of cirrhosis of the liver at age 41.
