HARRY LANGDON. Scarce vintage vintage 8x10 matte finish light sepia tone costume portrait from Zenobia (1939), boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, "To Lloyd Pope/from/Harry Langdon." Fine condition, with a mild bend in the top right corner; a tiny tear in the bottom border; and a professionally repaired tear, now all but invisible, at the right edge running into the background below his signature. Comic actor Harry Langdon enjoyed an all too brief period of major success under the directorial helm of Frank Capra in the 1920s, but he could never recapture the small spark of genius that Capra had tapped after the two parted ways. He died in 1944 at age 60, a dejected figure who never quite figured out what had happened to him.
