Gladys Cooper
GLADYS COOPER. Vintage 8x10 glossy sepia tone publicity still from an unknown film, boldly signed with her name alone in blue ballpoint ink. Fine condition, with slight paper loss and soiling in the left border, and stray ink marks in the bottom border, as she perhaps tried to get the ink flowing. British leading lady and later character actress Gladys Cooper's stage, screen, and television career spanned nearly seventy years. She was active in Hollywood throughout much of the 1940s, winning an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress as Bette Davis's ghastly, domineering mother in Now, Voyager (1942), perhaps her best-known film role, as well as for performances in The Song of Bernadette (1943) and My Fair Lady (1964), in which she played Mrs. Higgins. Although she signed what apparently were zillions of postcard photos during her early years on the stage, signed 8x10 photographs from this period in her career are surprisingly uncommon.
