DICK POWELL. Vintage 8x10 matte finish sepia tone half-length portrait by Irving Lippman, circa 1933, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, "To/- Carl -/Best wishes/Dick Powell." Fine condition, with corner pinholes and the last two letters of his surname penned against the dark fabric of his jacket. Starting as a vocalist, Dick Powell became Warner Bros.' crooner-in-chief throughout the 1930s, later transitioning to hard-boiled roles in films such as Murder, My Sweet (1944). He continued to appear in films up until his death in 1963, also pursuing successful secondary careers as a producer and director.
