Clive Brook
CLIVE BROOK. Vintage 8x10 glossy sepia tone publicity portrait, circa 1930, boldly signed and inscribed in black fountain pen, "To [indecipherable]/very, very best/wishes/Clive Brook." Fine condition, with scattered mild handling bends and a thin diagonal line of soiling on his left shirt cuff. The stolid British leading man appeared in such notable films as Underworld (1927), Shanghai Express (1932), and Cavalcade (1933). He was also the first actor to portray Sherlock Holmes in a sound film. In 1944 he capped his film career by directing and starring in the delirious comedy, On Approval, the only film that ever adequately exploited the zany genius of the incomparable Beatrice Lillie.
