Claudette Colbert
CLAUDETTE COLBERT. Glossy 8x10 black and white two-thirds length portrait of the pert-looking leading lady, circa 1934, boldly signed in later years in blue felt tip ink. Fine condition, with a small, faint background bend below her signature, not substantially detracting from overall appearance. As usual, Colbert is photographed with most of the right side of her face hidden. The actress did not believe that her right side photographed well, and she always insisted on being shot from the left side. Not only did scenes have to be staged in order to highlight her "good" side, but sets had to be constructed with doors at screen right so that she could make an entrance with the left side of her face showing. As co-star Fredric March fondly commented, "I'd like to wring her neck -- if she had one!"
