CHARLES "CHIC" SALE. Definitive vintage 7.75 x 9.75 matte finish silver tone head and shoulders portrait, boldly inscribed in black fountain pen, "To/Charles A. Krause, Jr./Maker of film-/land 'snow'/Chic Sale." Slightly trimmed borders; otherwise very fine condition. Vaudevillian "Chic" Sale was a wildly popular comedian of the 1920s who, with the aid of a convincing set of stage "whiskers" (as seen in this image), played wily old codgers and country bumpkins more than twice his actual age. In 1930, with a half dozen silent screen appearances already under his belt, he moved to Hollywood for good, appearing in 25 additional films before his death in 1936 at age 51.
