CHARLES DINGLE. Vintage 1940s 8x10 matte finish sepia tone chest-up portrait, boldly signed and inscribed in blue fountain pen, "To/Bessie Mitchell/Sincerely/Charles Dingle." Fine condition, with two mild bends in the background at the right, not substantially detracting from the overall appearance of the image. Character actor Charles Dingle was much in demand in Hollywood in the 1940s, appearing in scores of films, usually cast as a corrupt businessman or other unsavory pillars of the community. His best remembered performance was as Ben Hubbard, Bette Davis's grasping, greedy older brother, in The Little Foxes, a role he had originated to great acclaim on Broadway. Signed photographs are quite uncommon.
