Billie Dove
BILLIE DOVE. Glossy 10x8 black and white glamour portrait, inscribed in later years in fine-piont blue ink, "To Richard Lamparski/Greetings and the bet/of good wishes!/Billie Dove." Fine condition, with light creasing to the left corners, not affecting the image. The writing, just a shade light, is nonetheless easily readable. Richard Lamparski, to whom the photograph is inscribed, was the author of the eleven volume "Whatever Became of..." book series, chronicling the after-screen lives of many stars of earlier years. Billie Dove's initial performances before a microphone were somewhat stiff and tentative, but soon became more confident and dramatically credible. Rumor was that she abruptly quit films in 1932 following the release of Blondie of the Follies after William Randolph Hearst relegated much of her performance to the cutting room floor because he felt that she outshone co-star Marion Davies.
