Bebe Daniels
BEBE DANIELS. Youthful vintage 7x9 matte finish silver tone half-length portrait by Witzel, circa 1920, boldly inscribed in blue fountain pen, "For/Dear Mrs. Pearson/With every good/wish/Bebe Daniels." Near very fine condition, with a small tear in the left border, not impacting the image. Her signature is partially penned against a darker area of the image, but is still readable, with very faint ink blurring to two letters of her surname. One of the top comediennes of the silent screen, Bebe Daniels was paired with Harold Lloyd at age 14 and appeared as his leading lady in dozens of one- and two-reelers in his early "Lonesome Luke" series. She later made a smooth transition to sound, but soon left Hollywood to marry English actor Ben Lyons, proving popular in Britain onstage as well as on radio and television for the remainder of her career. Signed photographs from this early in her career are rather uncommon.
