Alan Hale
ALAN HALE. Scarce vintage 7.5 x 9.5 matte finish sepia tone chest-up portrait, boldly inscribed in green fountain pen, "To/Lorraine Mason/Sinerely/Alan Hale/33." Lightly trimmed borders; otherwise very fine condition. The writing, although penned against the dark fabric of his suit jacket, is clear and easily readable. An uncommonly early image! Entering film in 1911, veteran character actor Alan Hale appeared in 235 productions, including scores of one- and two-reelers during the early days of the silent screen. During the 1930s and '40s he was an essential member of the Warner Bros. stock company and, remarkably, was cast thirteen times opposite Errol Flynn, most notably as Little John in The Adventures of Robin Hood (1938).
