Ossip Gabrilowitsch
OSSIP GABRILOWITSCH. Vintage 8x10 matte finish sepia tone chest-up portrait, boldly signed with his name alone in black fountain pen. Very good condition, with paper loss to both right corner tips; a small diagonal bend in the background at the top right; and extensive silvering, not visible when the image is viewed head on. The Russian-born pianist, a student of Anton Rubenstein, was one of the greatest keyboard artists of the early twentieth century. He was also the founding conductor of the Detroit Symphony, a post he held until 1935, shortly before his death.
