FRANCO ALFANO. Vintage 4x6 matte finish silver tone deckle-edge head and shoulders portrait, boldly inscribed in the lower border in black fountain pen and dated April 11, 1937. Fine condition, with patches of light silvering. Known primarily as the composer who completed the final act of Puccini's Turandot, Franco Alfano was a prolific composer who labored doggedly to perpetuate the great tradition of Italian classical music. He composed numerous orchestral and vocal works, as well as the operas Cyrano de Bergerac and Risurrezione, the latter championed by the great verismo stylist, Magda Olivero.
