Felix Weingartner
FELIX WEINGARTNER. Vintage 3.5 x 5.5 matte finish sepia tone half-length portrait of Weingartner striking a Napoleonic pose, boldly signed at the base of the image in black fountain pen. Very fine condition. A leading figure in the history of classical music in the 20th century, Felix Weingartner made his mark as both a conductor and composer. As a conductor, he was the first to record all nine of Beethoven's symphonies and succeeded Gustav Mahler as principal conductor of the Vienna Hofoper in 1908, one of many distinguished appointments. He left a prodigious legacy as a composer, including symphonies, string quartets, concertos for cello and violin, and numerous vocal works, including operas and lieder.
