WALT WHITMAN. Scarce ANS on a white card, about 3.75x2.5, double matted in shades of brown and green, using all acid-free materials, with a color engraving of the poet and wood framed to an overall size of 12.75x17.75. Whitman has signed the card in black ink with his usual large, expansive signature, then added below, in brown ink, "'Specimen Days' autobi-/ograph complete prose writings/(one vol.) will be out 15th/Rees Welsh & Co. Philadelphia/publishers." Specimen Days, a collection of Whitman's prose writings, was published in 1881. A scan of the entire matted ensemble is available upon request.
